1. Does my browser support Active X controls and Talkspace? If it does, why dont I see the Talkspace program prompt me for installation and appear in the web page?

If you dont see a prompt to install the Talkspace "Active X" control (a type of web plug-in) and the control doesnt seem to have installed, your web browser might not be set up to accept Active X controls. Currently Talkspace is supported in Microsoft Internet Explorer versions 5.0 and higher. We will provide more details on Netscape support soon. The MacOS or Linux/Unix are not supported. To enable Active X in IE, go to Tools/Internet Options and then click on the Security tab to see what your browser security level is. You can then select Default Level, and if your browser security is set to Medium or lower then you should be able to install Talkspace. As a next step, press the Custom Level button and you should ensure that signed Active X controls are set to enabled or prompt. You can then refresh this page and you should then be able to get Talkspace to install.

2. I speak into my microphone but nobody else can hear me, how can I fix this?

See our guide to getting your microphone and sound working for Talkspace. If your microphone is already working but occaisionally you press control and your mic does not pick up (the level indicator does not fluctuate) you can press CTRL again and it should pick up. If you want to keep this problem from ever occuring again check OFF silence detection in your Settings.

Turn off Silence Detection

Sometimes you have to speak to be able to hear others.

3. What if I would like to use Talkspace from behind a firewall?

Talkspace requires the following ports to be open through your firewall to enable communication:

3060, 3061 and 3062

If these ports are not open there is a chance the Talkspace client will crash trying to communicate with its server (causing a browser security violation). We will have an enumeration of the error messages that Talkspace reports on this site soon. In the settings/profile you can switch Talkspace from using UDP to using TCP to transmit its packets and thereby enable some firewall transmissions.
